Horn of Plenty

As part of our family devotions for Thanksgiving, I am using the new Shepherd My Child “Fruit of the Spirit” cards. These cards can be purchased on Etsy  (click here).

I purchased a small “horn of plenty” at Michael’s for less than $4 last week, and last night I stayed up and finished our “fruit” to fill the cornucopia. Here’s a picture:

I made this fruit from construction paper, and each fruit corresponds to a card from the “Fruit of the Spirit” set. Throughout the Thanksgiving season, we will be talking about both the physical and spiritual fruits covered in the “Fruit of the Spirit” Scripture cards. I was really amazed at how interested Shaan was in the fruit! This morning, we read through the whole set, then specifically focused on “Love” (the apple) and “Joy” (the pear). We sang the following songs:

“Praise Him, Praise Him all ye little children, God is LOVE, God is LOVE” (for the “Love” card)

“I’ve got the JOY, JOY, JOY, JOY down in my heart…” (for the “Joy” card)

We also went over both Bible verses covering Love and Joy from the “Fruit of the Spirit” set.

Lastly, I decided to make it extra rewarding and fun by making a “cornucopia” and “fruit” from Bugles and Runts, respectively, and use the “treat” bag as a reward when we learned verses or remembered some of the “fruit of the Spirit.” Shaan remembered both Love and Joy after our devotional session, so two Runts for him!

I really was pleased at how well of a “hit” the devotion was with the little guy and that after only one session he was already able to remember two “fruits” of the Spirit! This devotion idea may be something some of you may be interested in trying out with your little ones this Thanksgiving season. Here’s a few more pics of our “Horn of Plenty” devotion “props”:

Don’t forget to check out our Etsy store if you are interested in these cards! Happy Harvest Season!!! :)
